Live Review: Abbe May, Tired Lion, Mei Sarawati, Dianas, Silver Hills

Kicking off the local acts, Silver Hills opened the night, dressed in tight jeans, flip flops and socks.

The band’s setlist consisted mostly of yet to be released tracks, although the band closed the set with last year’s single Memento.


Guitars in hand, Dianas launched into Static with Nathalie Pavlovic thrusting and dancing to the rhyme. The duo engaged the crowd with their melodies, including an exuberant rendition of 1000 Years.


Armed with a laptop, an APC20 and a microphone Mei Saraswati brought a hypnotic atmosphere into the room with soulful R&B mixed with electronica. Songs included He Knows, Swamp Gospel and Tek Life, making people want to dance.

Indie-rock band Tired Lion flawlessly smashed out Are You Listening.. .Listener? and Too Much Of Nothing. Lead singer Sophie Hopes amazed the crowd with her stunning vocals and guitar skills with Little Girl. They finished off the set with an energetic rendition of their new song I Don’t Think You Like Me. Tired Lion have the potential to be something amazing, definitely a band to watch.


After a long night of acts, Abbe May finally graced the stage. The singer opened up with two new songs, keeping the titles a secret, with no complaints from the crowd who clearly loved the new material. The new album Bitchcraft, is set to be released early next year. She gave the crowd another taste of her new music with I Hope I Never Love You and mesmerised the audience with her stunning vocals.


May smashed out Karmageddon flawlessly before launching into a sensual cover of Ginuwine’s Pony amazed the crowd who began to dance to the infectious beat. Mammalian Locomotion entertained with catchy guitar riffs and incredible singing, before she stepped into the crowd for an intimate rendition of Cast That Devil Out. The audience was treated to one last new song before the guitar gunfire showdown finale with her brother KT Rumble (aka Douglas May).
