Live Review: Justin Timberlake

Holy shit JT was fun in Sydney.

More Justin Timberlake More Justin Timberlake

The young, old and all who’s in between piled into Sydney’s Allphones Arena to get their fix of (arguably) the most dapper man in the music business, Justin Timberlake, last night.

When the superstar and his ridiculously talented band The Tennesse Kids finally rose up onto the stage and busted out Pusher Love Girl, anticipation turned to ecstatic screams, muddled, excited jibberish between friends and joyous tears. We JT fans are hardcore, man.

For the first half of the show, Timberlake drifted seamlessly between his four studio albums – a funkified Rock Your Body led to the down and dirty of FutureSex/LoveSound, while that guitar intro in Like I Love You took us right back to 2002, when we were first given a taste of post-N*SYNC life for the singer.

A moment behind the piano for Until The End Of Time saw Timberlake beautifully show-off his sensitive side and the angst of Cry Me A River was the perfect end to the show’s first part.

The second half of the night saw more of The 20/20 Experience (both records) come to life – Only When I Walk Away, Drink You Away, Tunnel Vision and an incredible rendition of Let The Groove Get In. It was during this song that Timberlake and his crew glided across the arena on a long platform that rose up out of the stage. It was also the moment when teenage dreams were made – “Gaaaaahhhhhh, he was right in front of me,” was overheard – or possibly said – by this reviewer. Possibly...

He covered a few of his idols (Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson) before venturing back over to the main stage with a killer performance of Take Back The Night for a finale that included Suit & Tie, SexyBack and the epic, emotional closer, Mirrors. Holy shit that was fun.
