The Evil Within

Do yourself a favour and accept that you're going to die. A lot.

The music starts to play... You hear the blood dripping... Your heart starts to beat and a familiar feeling of dread returns.

That's right. The man behind the iconic Resident Evil franchise, Shinji Mikami, has returned with his latest creation, The Evil Within.

It is not often a game instills fear into the hearts of people across the world, so when it does there is obviously a good reason why. The aesthetic is dark, gritty and built in a world that nightmares are made of - but what is it about The Evil Within that sends shivers up your spine?

Quite frankly — everything. From the moment you pick up your control, the odds are against you. The army of undead begins the hunt and a new bar for survival horror has been set.

The opening sequence is something that will stay with you for a very long time. The Evil Within makes it very clear from the beginning that it will not show compassion or regard for your well being. This is survival horror in all it's true forms.

Within the first 30 seconds, we had our head cut off. No barrage of attacks, just one hit. Do yourself a favour and accept the fact that you are going to die over and over again in this game. That's not an easy notion to have through your head as you creep around every dimly lit corner. The sounds and shadows bring another level of anxiety to the gameplay, particularly the howls of the undead echoing through every chamber. While you may not be able to see them, in the back of your mind you know they are there waiting for you.

The creators have released a series of videos online on how to survive, which we suggest you watch. The body count is high but don't expect too many bullets as supplies are scarce and you can chose to explore the area for anything that may help. However every move comes with a price.

Do you do have what it takes to survive The Evil Within?

The Evil Within is also available on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PlayStation 3.
