Album Review: Polaris - The Mortal Coil

"Production is fat, powerful and crystal clear, and the songs are strong."

More Polaris More Polaris

The post-hardcore/melodic metalcore thing continues to go from strength to strength, in Australia and across the globe, and Sydney's Polaris prove throughout their debut album that they have a sound, a vibe and an attitude that could take them a long, long way in this scene.

In fact, The Mortal Coil is a post-hardcore lover's delight. Everything is in place: the heavy parts pound like hell's thunder, the melodic parts soar to the very heavens and the dirty/clean vocal trade-offs are on the money. Production is fat, powerful and crystal clear, and the songs are strong.

Best track awards go to the triumphant, fist-pumping Consume and the dark, dynamic closer Sonder, which switches up from melancholy to devastating and back again in a cohesive blink of an eye, rounds things out in cathartic style.

This band is set to join the ranks of the most prestigious post-hardcore bands on the planet with the release of The Mortal Coil. If you dig this style, this record is one of the must-haves of 2017.
