"His new solo album sounds inescapably like a modern incarnation of '70s Pink Floyd"

More Roger Waters More Roger Waters

Some artists' writing styles are just so very distinctive, they take it everywhere they go. No matter what project they are doing, no matter the setting, it sounds precisely like them.

Roger Waters is one of those artists. His new solo album sounds inescapably like a modern incarnation of '70s Pink Floyd: the dark, unsettling, languid atmosphere; the cutting, politically-tinged lyrics (no prizes for guessing who he is referring to when he sings 'Picture a leader with no fucking brains'); the very Floydian instrumentation and female backing vocals. This should please Floyd's millions of fans to no end.

He may be in his 70s, but Waters still has it.
