Album Review: The Charlatans - Different Days

"Pleasantly distracting, but unlike 'Modern Nature', inessential."

More The Charlatans More The Charlatans

Barely two years after Modern Nature provided an enviable late career peak, the now comfortably four-pieced Charlatans have thrown open the studio doors and Different Days is up to its hips with enviable guest spots.

Johnny Marr, Lambchop's Kurt Wagner, former Verve drummer Pete Salisbury, New Order's Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert all make their presences felt, but everyone (The Charlatans included) feels diluted. Solutions and There Will Be Chances in particular meander, although there is a bit of funky Morris dancing on Over Again and The Same House. Pleasantly distracting but, unlike Modern Nature, inessential.
