"... A consistent, high-calibre collection of songs."
Where Future Islands' last record, 2014's Singles, was more a vehicle for a couple of key tracks, The Far Field is a rounder album filled with a consistent, high-calibre collection of songs.
While on first listen it's difficult to find anything of the blockbuster quality of Seasons (Waiting On You), the pressure that's released from the band as a result means that tracks like Day Glow Fire, one of the album's weaker moments, isn't too exposed. The driving bass, sweet keyboard chords and singer Samuel T Herring's gravelly vocals combine to deliver a considered, direct album.
