Album Review: Placebo - Life's What You Make It

Having repeatedly proven their worth covering other people's songs with sometimes playfully faithful, sometimes utterly skeuomorphic results, here Placebo supplement their new compilation album (A Place For Us To Dream) with a take of a Talk Talk classic.

Where Mark Hollis' vocals on the original sound defeated, here backed by marching drums Brian Molko gives it a military grunt which kinda works as a respectful yet harmless reinvention. Also included are two (!) live versions of Twenty Years (one bucolic and beautiful, one slightly oomphier) and three new songs which demonstrate Placebo can still deliver metered intensity.
