Album Review: Powell - Sport

"Powell continues to fly in the face of clubland's universally appealing blandness."

This may be his first album on XL Recordings - home to Radiohead, The Avalanches etc. - but Powell continues to fly in the face of clubland's universally appealing blandness with an unrepentantly erect middle digit.

One of 2016's most original and unpredictable dancefloor releases, Sport is loaded with confrontational energy and playfulness, from the filthy anti-melody of Frankie, to the warped vocal of Fuck You, Oscar, to the incognisant homeward stagger of Mad Love. Play these twisted bangers at 2am and the place will either empty or tear itself apart depending on how it's wired.
