Album Review: Dolly Parton - Pure & Simple

"It's Dolly - enough said."

More Dolly Parton More Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton makes "cheap" cliches work in a way that no one else could pull off.

As expected, her 43rd album covers big hair, all-night romps and gettin' handsy across the hot-date checklist Head Over High Heels and the country-pop harmony treatment of the more serious Outside Your Door. The Queen of Country has always tempered this with enduring dedications of love, and here the string-accompanied Forever Love cuts through with pure intention made wondrous by Parton's constantly clear and powerful vocal.

With stripped-back production it's not one of her highlight albums, but it's Dolly - enough said.
