Album Review: Alex Lahey - B-Grade University

Alex Lahey makes self-deprecating lyrics totally her own, painting broad-stroke vignettes of everyday Australian life and youthful attitudes passed off with an amiable shrug. Lahey lends melodicism to her light brand of garage-pop that gets your sneakers shuffling, with a vocal line that holds a gentle looseness and earthiness that wraps its arm around you like an old buddy. B-Grade University is an ode to every 20something experiencing the mundanity of life, and though her no frills, no shits given attitude is no longer an anomaly, she's as deserving of the title 'The Next Big Thing' as anyone could be.
