"It's a record that is already a worthy successor to and perhaps surpasses its parent album."
Having hardly had enough time to digest low-fidelity pop duo Beach House's first album in over three years (August's Depression Cherry), a second BH album has been released - an unexpected surprise and a welcome one at that.
As vocalist/keyboardist Victoria Legrande explained in interviews recently, it was an album the band wanted to do on their own terms and was not intended as a collection of b-sides or an accompanying album, despite being recorded concurrently with its predecessor. It could reasonably be assumed then that TYLS was put out devoid of the standard marketing/management plan, yet it's a record that is already a worthy successor to and perhaps surpasses its parent album on first listen.
