"By its own nature this album will clearly split a crowd in opinion."

More Ryan Adams More Ryan Adams

With a bulging catalogue of covers already under his belt, it was hard not to get excited at the prospect of Ryan Adams taking on Taylor Swift's latest record 1989.

The transformation of Shake It Off to something like a Bruce Springsteen track through to Out Of The Woods verging on The Smiths, each track is twisted through a back road acoustic country style while keeping the heartbreak nature of the lyrics as the record's compass. By its own nature this album will clearly split a crowd in opinion; it's playful on genre, gender, and refuses to take itself seriously, but who can argue with the folk troubadour who is so clearly in his element here.
