Album Review: The Dead Weather - Dodge & Burn

"The main weapon here is Alison Mosshart's sheer presence."

More The Dead Weather More The Dead Weather

Despite the inverse Foo Fighters manoeuvre of having the best guitar player on drums, the long-gestating third Dead Weather album still surges along on that verge-of-feedback blues racket that marks Jack White's work.

But the main weapon here is Alison Mosshart's sheer presence. Grounded somewhere between 'fuck me' and 'fuck off' her voice makes this band what it is. From I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)'s Zeppelin-esque maelstrom, via Rough Detective's burlesque duet, to the closing bizarro-world Broadway showstopper Impossible Winner it's somehow both throwaway and enduring. You're again left wondering what White might do next.
