"The remainder is far more moody, easily moving between sexy, sad and downright trippy."

More Kelela More Kelela

Los Angelean singer Kelela made a few end-of-year 'best of' lists with her 2013 mixtape Cut 4 Me, a mix of futuristic R&B and synthetic hip hop atmospherics packing undeniable moments of brilliance.

Her first official release is an EP, six different producers, six tracks that all remain in and around the territories Kelela has so far inhabited. The obvious standout is the uptempo '80s pop-locking of Rewind, accessible enough to rock a dancefloor yet weird enough to remain hidden from the mainstream. The remainder is far more moody, easily moving between sexy, sad and downright trippy; easily enough to keep her star in the ascendant.
