Album Review: Fanny Lumsden - Small Town Big Shot

Country meets folk with an Aussie twang that only makes it all the more charming on Fanny Lumsden's Small Town Big Shot.

This is the sound of road trains on the edge of town, morning tea and cake on a Formica kitchen table, songs heard in the distance while you watch the wood chop at the local show — but never as hokey or cliched as those descriptions may sound. With Small Town Big Shot, Lumsden captures a version of Australia that might be a little old-fashioned, but that doesn't make it any less relevant.
