"These utterly dreamy vignettes, all sequenced together for continuous listening, add up to an album that nostalgically looks back."
Prolific hip hop producer Glen Boothe takes the wraps of his fifth Knxwledge album, a woozy haze of 26 really short tracks that deconstruct old soul/jazz and R&B samples to solid beats and bass, comparisons to Dilla naturally seeming obvious.
Snippets from Erykah Badu and D’Angelo among many well-known others are remixed into really wonky beats. It’s sometimes infuriating that Knxwledge doesn’t linger on a particular vibe for too long but these utterly dreamy vignettes, all sequenced together for continuous listening, add up to an album that nostalgically looks back while applying some contemporary spin.
