Album Review: Holly Herndon - Platform

Herndon claims there’s infinitely more emotional content in a laptop than in a violin, and as perverse as that sounds, Platform goes some way to proving it.

Whilst consistently exploring new ways to exploit the man-machine interface, one of her strongest hands is the old trick of shuffling abrupt snatches of the human voice, best displayed on the genuinely ecstatic Chorus, which cofounding structural overlays form something both otherworldly and familiar. Herndon’s talent for extracting unforeseen channels of depth from silicone-based technologies suggests the emergence of an extraordinary talent.
