Album Review: Joanna Gruesome - Peanut Butter

The whole ‘quiet is the new loud’ game features a lot of very popular acts rather weightlessly drifting into dreamy atmospheres and dealing out lyrical acts of assumed intimacy with listeners.

Thankfully some bands still make a noise and Welsh quartet Joanna Gruesome make a hell of a racket on their second album. Hitting irresistible punk pop notes with three-minute songs that work atonal noise, shoegaze, pop hooks, riot grrl attitude and quirky lyrics about space aliens and radical politics into a delightfully creamy lather. Get this if it’s been a long time since you rocked’n’rolled.
