"It’s an empowering record, with stories that are relatable and cutting."

More Speedy Ortiz More Speedy Ortiz

Speedy Ortiz’s new record is the sound of pure confidence.

The guitar work is heavy – there’re some real ‘fuck yeah’ hooks that wouldn’t seem out of place in a Pond song – but Sadie Dupuis’s wordy verses make sure it never sinks into dumb rock’n’roll territory. It’s an empowering record, with stories that are relatable and cutting. Dupuis sings like she’s been everywhere and fought and beaten everyone in her way. There are plenty of the fuzz and DIY influences, but the sense of fun and raw power on Foil Deer makes it all fresh again.
