Album Review: RL Grime - Void

"A pretty ballsy debut."

More RL Grime More RL Grime

RL Grime has become king of, well, grime and trap without even releasing an album, instead relying on a regular output of singles and remixes. That is, until now. Void as an album has the unenviable job of boiling down the American producer’s sound, and the results are invariably mixed. Always is a hell of a down-tempo opener for an EDM record, but tracks like Golden State and Djemba Djemba explode with deep house rhythm and huge, slow-mo drops. What binds it all together is the muted, sinister edge Grime is known for. A pretty ballsy debut.
