"Blood flows at the cost of what made the band memorable in the first place."
Leeds ball-tearers Pulled Apart By Horses have a shot at cohesion on Blood. The intent to deliver something wholly immersive after two albums of punches-to-the-throat interspersed with filler is admirable, yet it stymies their unpredictability.
Moments of fiery glory such as the slow-grind avalanche of Skull Noir, the rusted riptide of Bag Of Snakes or the feedback drill that hollows out closer, Golden Monument, are marooned by a glut of songs indistinguishable from each other. It’s good to mature, but Blood flows at the cost of what made the band memorable in the first place.
