Album Review: Philip Selway - Weatherhouse

Weatherhouse is masterful in its manipulation of melancholia without being too heavy-handed.

More Philip Selway More Philip Selway

As far as shadows go, being Radiohead’s drummer is pretty darn inescapable, but Philip Selway’s second solo effort boldly breaks free.

Dont Go Nows verses draw on If You Could Read My Mind and I Follow Rivers while It Will End In Tears is awash with Sgt Pepper-isms, but the most spellbinding presence throughout is Selway’s phantasmic vocals which phase between the comforting presence of a passed loved one and an unsettling poltergeist-like character. Weatherhouse is masterful in its manipulation of melancholia without being too heavy-handed.
