"It’s executed with such relish you’ll forgive them"

More Cannibal Corpse More Cannibal Corpse

After a sluggish period, Cannibal Corpse has hit a purple (should that be blood red?) patch since 2006’s Kill and, despite being mid-40s family men, their horror movie death metal bristles with the beloved Cannibal groove.

The quintet has become more technically adept as time progresses; standout Pat O’Brien particularly ups his game via a series of neoclassical-esque leads. Greater focus on blast-a-thons and sickening guitar melodies resonates. In lesser hands gurgled proclamations like “Fire up the chainsaw/Hack their fucking heads off!”” would approach self-parody, but it’s executed with such relish you’ll forgive them.
