Spot someone on stage in a tattered catsuit in the near-future and that might just be Kim Boekbinder.

How did you get together?
Kim Boekbinder, vocals/guitar/synth/percussion: The Impossible Girl came to me in a dream. I woke with a fully formed song and stage name in Berlin. I've been playing solo for two years. The rest of the band I met while visiting Melbourne last year. I love having a band!

Have you recorded anything or do you prefer to tool around in your bedroom?
I've recorded a full length solo album – The Impossible Girl – a vinyl 7” (with Amanda Palmer) and several themed singles in the past year. Prior to that I recorded two full albums, one 7” record, and two EPs with my band Vermillion Lies. I'm in Melbourne writing my next album. It is space-themed. Because… Space!

Can you sum up your band's sound in four words?
Amazing experimental space pop.

If you could support any band in the world, who would it be and why?
TUnE-yArDs. Just saw them play at the Corner in December. They are amazing. Being around that much super performance energy every night on tour would be life-changing.

If a higher power smites your house and you can only save one record from the fire, what would it be?
Ennio Morricone's soundtrack to The Good, The Bad And The Ugly. I have it on vinyl. I love it so.

Do you have a lucky item of clothing you wear for gigs and what is it?
I just got a galaxy catsuit from Blackmilk Clothing. I plan to wear it to every show for the rest of my life until it falls off me in tatters.

If you invited someone awesome round for dinner what would you cook?
Mexican food is great for dinner parties. Black beans with chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. Homemade corn tortillas. Sauteed vegies. Fresh guacamole and salsa. And margeritas.

What's your favourite place to drink in Melbourne?
Fuck this, I'm going to Kent St.
