Sydney-based singer-songwriter Patrick James is back, armed with a new EP, and we here at theMusic.com.au have the exclusive premiere of its first cut Up.

For fans of The 1975, the piano-driven anthem hones into the broader themes of the release with James' signature story-telling prowess shining through.

"This collection of songs is all about relationships," James said of the new EP, What We're Fighting For, due out 8 March.

"I wanted to write about being mid 20’s, trying to find your way in an expensive city and at the same time keeping a healthy and functioning relationship AND at the same time staying mentally right. Naturally some of this is autobiographical, some of it isn’t, but overall I wanted the songs to speak a common language to anyone else or couples who are experiencing similar things."

The single release also comes with news of an east coast tour. Playing dates in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane throughout April, scroll down to theGuide for all the details.
