More Jacob Diamond More Jacob Diamond

Single title? Bins

What's the song about? Suddenly feeling unsettled in relationships, and the subsequent desire to just go right ahead and put yourself in the bin.

How long did it take to write/record? I wrote slowly on an amazing display guitar at the music shop I work in (between customers, lol?), and we tracked live and speedily on the floor of an old theatre near Fremantle in WA.

Is this track from a forthcoming release/existing release? Bins is lifted from my EP, Um, which followed my previous EP Chum. They were recorded in the same place and in much the same way, but about different stuff... This one's the sad one.

What was inspiring you during the song's writing and recording? One part being sad to two parts Carson-Crickmore baritone guitar. The instrument lent itself to big, simple open chords, so I tried writing bigly and simply, yielding results reminiscent of Dad's favourite old folks songs.

We'll like this song if we like... Alt-folkists like Courtney Barnett and Father John Misty, but maybe also like.. Stephen Sondheim?

Do you play it differently live? I have to change the key performing it live, because I recorded it way too low. I'm sorry to have to mislead you, world.

When and where is your launch/next gigs? 13 Apr, Wesley Anne.
