BAR SIDE

The Woolly Mammoth Alehouse is anything but prehistoric – this diverse, multifunctional space has a little something for everyone. The modern-yet-rustic venue provides three distinct areas for your entertainment – the Alehouse, the Mane Stage and the Garden Bar.

The Alehouse — as the name suggests — supplies the boozy component of the establishment, as well as shuffleboards to satisfy your inner oldie, whilst the Mane Stage provides a space for gigs and other such entertainment.

The main feature of the Garden Bar is a roof that opens up to let in those summer rays (or conversely keep out those summer storms). Keep to the shade on the astroturf or lounge on some comfortable couches in the sun — your choice! If you want to get up and get a little competitive then giant jenga and bocce are both at your fingertips, while the bright and stylish area also lends itself well during the day to people who want to relax in the sun, and at night for those who yearn for loud music so they can dance the night away.

The menu is small but definitely packs a punch and covers all of the essentials. There are a few traditional pizzas to choose from, as well as some vegetarian and vegan options. Feeling adventurous? Try the caramelised onion, blue cheese and caper variety. The menu also features some rustic off-the-bone delights. Enjoy the beef short ribs in stout jus with horseradish potato salad and beetroot relish or dine on the pork knuckle with sauerkraut, peach chutney and cider jus. If you and your friends are looking to share, try a scrumptious platter of one of the following: meats, cheese or vegetables.

And what would an alehouse be without some ale? The venue provides 31 craft products on tap, plus an extensive wine list and some refreshing cocktails are also available as an alternative. Of particular mention is the Mai Tai — a hypnotic blend of rum, freshly-squeezed orange juice and pineapple topped with fresh mint, maraschino cherries and orange with a touch of grenadine.

The Woolly Mammoth Alehouse is keeping its doors open for New Year’s Eve 2014 with live entertainment across the entire venue and a very special menu for the night: mouth-watering options will be available such as pomegranate and pinot-glazed short beef ribs with sweet potato puree or house-pickled cauliflower fried in buttermilk besan butter with cheese fondue, for those not so meat inclined.

FUN FACT

The Woolly Mammoth Alehouse holds a bocce tournament every Thursday in the Garden Bar — enjoy the friendly competition over some cool refreshments and chilled-out tunes.
