More Steve Kilbey More Steve Kilbey

In the lead-up to the event Nothing Has Changed, an event at they Opera House featuring multiple vocalists out front of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra performing the legacy of David Bowie, we grabbed Steve Kilbey to have a quick chat about all things Bowie and the show.

Do you remember where you were when you heard Bowie had passed away? What was your reaction? I was on holiday with my family and I was having a nap. When I woke up they were all sitting around crying. When they told me what had happened I was numb.

Can you narrow down your favourite Bowie track to just one? Sweet Thing/Candidate off Diamond Dogs. It runs the gamut of what Bowie does with wonderful piano by Mike Garson and guitar by Bowie himself. It's a tour de force.

Have you performed with an orchestra before? What are you expecting from the night? Yes, a few times. I don't know what to expect but I expect it will be astonishing!

What made you choose the particular song(s) you're performing on the night? They were my faves on the list. And ones I thought I could do justice to...

Will you sing your songs true to the original or put your own spin on things? It's very hard not to want to sing it like Bowie sang them. Still I am trying for the sweet spot between sounding too much like him yet not derailing the songs original intent.
