Album title? Australia Restless

Where did the title of your new album come from? It’s about physical movement within Australia; how some people shift towns, cities and places regularly. But it’s also about a psychological restlessness, a sense of being restlessly ill at ease in the Australian landscape.

How many releases do you have now? This is first album as The Ark-Arks but did two albums with The Aerial Maps, plus another with Modern Giant.

How long did it take to write/record? From start to finish it probably took three years.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? Strangely, I wrote a fair bit of this album whilst doing some teaching work in Finland, of all places. Seeing Australia from that distance was useful and gave me a nice sense of distance.

What’s your favourite song on it? The Years Nobody Cared What You Did. Everyone is so concerned what everyone else is doing these days. It’s annoying.

Will you do anything differently next time? This probably took a little longer to finish than I’d hoped. I think speed generates happy accidents.

When and where is your launch/next gig? Junk Bar, 9 May.
