The Thinking Foodie's Crumpet (And Waffles)
Forget abut pancakes! Ok, we couldn't do that, but let's make some room in our hearts (and bellies) for pancakes' cousins the crumpet and the waffle. They're on plenty of menus these days.

This bakery/cafe specialising in artisan breads and pastries also stocks Dr Marty's Crumpets. The crumpets are made with organic flour and you can pick them up in various other cafes and bakeries around the place. Tivoli Rd also makes their own granola, jam, nougat, soda and chutneys, so there's plenty of bits to add on or around your crumpets.

This place does homemade crumpets with wild blackberries and whipped Schulz organic yoghurt, topped with toasted slivered almonds and vanilla-infused maple syrup. Their case is jam-packed full of homemade sweets and their breakfasts have all of your faves: dukkah eggs, Boston baked eggs and blueberry pancakes.

Miss Jackson's counter has all sorts of amazing looking sweet things, different ones every day including pavlova doughnuts with passionfruit, cinnamon raison cruffins and their apple and sour cream waffles with Anzac crumble. The savoury breakfast and lunch menu has some fresh twists on the classics, some left-of-centre options and some incredible sangas too.

Birdman hits all the sweet spots for brunch. Aside from house-made crumpets with leatherwood honey, they have coffee panna cotta with cocoa granola and milk sorbet, ricotta pancakes with confit camarelised banana, peanut butter ice cream and maple syrup, among much, much more.

Try their homemade crumpets with poached pears, ricotta and berry jam, or their watermelon, strawberry and orange with pistachio and lemon curd yoghurt. They've got a rotating single origin and plenty of outdoor seats to soak up some rays.

You can choose from three styles of homemade crumpet here. First there is bunker style, with ricotta and homemade blueberry jam; the 'sweet porky' with organic bacon and maple syrup; or the 'green eggs', with leg ham, poached eggs and basil hollandaise.

A little enclave near a train station with something called the 'smashed waffle jar', which is essentially waffles in a jar, or the 'waffle slider', or the 'waffle slab', all of which are perfect for waffle lovers on the run. The slider has salty caramel, crushed macadamia nuts and hot Belgian chocolate. If you're feeling adventurous try their wasabi and mandarin waffle sticks or their prosciutto and ricotta waffle.

If you feel like getting out of town for a waffle, jaffle, crepe or pancake adventure, these guys do it all. They have 17 different dishes, all made of waffles. The weirdest is a hotdog inside a waffle. The sweetest-sounding is the pavlova waffle with kiwi pavlova ice cream, kiwifruit and crushed meringue.
