Newtown Festival: Gelato Blue

It's all about the sugar for Newtown's Gelato Blue.

What is your most popular item? Our Nanatella Pancake Gelato and our Vegan Peanut Butter Brownie Sorbet. Our Nanatella Pancake is made with a caramelised banana, maple-drenched mini pancakes and chunks of frozen Nutella. Our Peanut Brownie is made with fresh peanut butter, vegan Belgian chocolate sauce and bits of vegan fudge brownies.

What’s the design/atmosphere of your shop? 1950s style gelateria with a modern twist. We are a family business so our store has a real 'at home feel'. We have an upstairs lounge and seating so customers can enjoy their gelato, cakes or coffee with a big group of mates, family and kiddies.


Why are you better than Maccas? We are better than Maccas because we make all of a our gelato and sorbet from scratch. All of our 33 gelato flavours on display are handmade using fresh and seasonal ingredients which are mixed with signature gelato base. We make our gelato in very small batches on a daily basis. We also sell Belgian chocolates, cakes, cronuts and handmade caramelised nuts. We cater for vegans offering ten vegan sorbets and a range of vegan cakes.

What would you suggest as the best item on your menu? Best item in store would have to be our Nutella Cronut Sundae. It's a warmed -up Nutella Cronut topped with a massive scoop of gelato then topped with whipped cream, melted Belgian chocolate and crushed toasted almonds. It's epically huge and so delicious, you need a knife and fork to eat it.

What is an ingredient you couldn’t live without? Why? Sugar. We are the dessert destination of Newtown. Everything we sell in our store is made with delicious sugar! If there was a sugar shortage crisis we'd be out of business!
