What’s your pub all about?

Providing the best craic in town. We serve up some of the best pub food and traditional Irish dishes in Brisbane, we put on live music every night of the week plus our resident DJs are in every Friday and Saturday from 9pm ‘til late. Our Craic’n Sunday sessions are something everyone should be a part of at least once in their lives; they are something else.

Does your pub have a history or story?

How much time do you have? There is quite a bit to get through. I’ll keep it brief: situated on one of the oldest hotel sites in Brisbane, the first hotel generally thought to have been built on the site was the Dunmore Arms, built in 1865. In fact, it may have been built as a replacement for an earlier hotel destroyed by fire. In 1888 it was redesigned and renamed as The Treasury Hotel and used to serve the new government treasury building across the street. In 1999 it was turned into the beloved Irish Murphy’s we now have.

What’s the pub’s design and atmosphere like?

When the owners looked at turning this 150-year-old building into an Irish pub they flew over to Ireland and collected several shipping containers worth of traditional Irish décor and bric-a-brac to use in the design. This gives Murphy’s that authentic Irish feel in the heart of Brisbane CBD. The atmosphere can go from a few cruisy afternoon drinks, to a balls-to-the-wall rock session in a matter of hours – there is always something interesting happening at Murphy’s. Plus we have one of Brisbane’s best drinking and smoking balconies.

What kind of people can we expect to see at your pub?

Everyone and anyone is welcome through our doors as we all speak  the universal language of ‘party’. Head in on a Sunday though and you are more than likely to bump into a few Irish lads who are up for the craic.

What’s your specialty drink?

The best Guinness in all the land.

What is your menu inspired by?

We do traditional Irish fare such as the classic Guinness Pie through to a delicious Bangers & Mash. Alongside that we have some amazing pub style meals from as little as $15. Our Head Chef Lance is an aficionado of everything hot and spicy and his Inferno Beef Burger is something you will not forget any time soon; I dare you to try it.

What sets you apart from other pubs?

The fact that we provide an atmosphere for people from all walks of life to come in and let loose with other like-minded people. It’s all about the craic, and here at Murphy’s there is plenty.

Best hangover cure?

An ice cold pint of Bulmers Cider to wash away the horrible feeling and a Murphy’s Fry Up to soak up all of last night’s regrets.

Are you offering any food specials or deals over BIGSOUND?

Anyone who rocks into Murphy’s and shows their BIGSOUND wristband or ticket can get any of our delicious burgers for $10 (comes with fries and are usually $15), and while we can’t say anything about drink prices, our ‘Get Craic’n/Get Crafty’ sessions on Fridays from 4pm-6pm are something worth checking out.
