BIGSOUND Eat/Drink: The Brunswick Social

9 September 2014 | 5:17 pm | Staff Writer

Opening hours during BIGSOUND: Wed, 4pm–12am; Thu–Sat, 5pm–3am

What dish from your menu would you recommend to BIGSOUND-goers and why?

BIGSOUNDers have to try the Shanghai Dumplings… delicious steamed pork dumplings filled with an aromatic Asian broth. The Jumbo Gyoza are also extraordinarily popular. There’s a big selection of Asian Street Food so come in and find your favourites… There’s no better way to fill hungry BIGSOUND stomachs while listening to tunes from great DJs.

Do you have any functions rooms or spaces that would suit small and large groups?

The Brunswick Social has been designed to accommodate a wide variety of function sizes, shapes and tastes… Enjoy your own lounge with private bar, exclusive dining areas or just hire out the whole damn thing! We have packages to suit anyone and everyone… launches, special events, functions, parties – we can tailor to your specific needs.

What kind of specials do you offer? Will you have BIGSOUND deals?

We don’t cover charge… ever! The B|Social is on Wed–Sat, 5–7pm; Fri–Sat, 11pm–1am. $10 Hello Panda cocktails. $5 Carlton Schooners, house wine and basic spirits. Any four dumplings for $8.

What kind of drinks do you have, and what would you recommend for BIGSOUND artists and speakers?

We have a large drinks list, with craft beers and great cocktails. You can’t go past our $10 Hello Panda.

What makes your establishment stand out from the rest around the BIGSOUND venues?

The venue is situated underground in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. The warm, chic decor and soft lighting sets the scene for the educated late night crowd and cocktail aficionados.

Hidden below street level away from the clarion call of Fortitude Valley, descending the stairs of The Brunswick Social is like entering another world. Industrial white-washed concrete walls, white polished cement floors, exposed hanging light bulbs, long rustic wooden tables and flickering candlelight create an acute sense of intimacy.

Each aspect is thoughtfully considered from the ordering system (menus are printed on paper and given to diners to tick off their order with a tiny pencil) to the creative cocktail concoction.

Which BIGSOUND artist or speaker would you love to have in your establishment, and what dish and drink would you serve them?

We’d love to have Panama, Gold Fields and George Maple (to name but a few!)… They won’t be able to go past our steamed prawn and coriander dumplings, or our crispy pork dumplings. They’ll also want to chug back ‘San Choy Ka Pow’ which is made of rum, ginger, pineapple, vanilla, lime, butter and spice.
