Fans "betrayed" as pop groups steal Twitter fight from beauty pageant teenagers

Fans of opposing pop groups have been left feeling “cheated, hurt and betrayed” this week after it emerged that the two groups had plagiarised a high profile Twitter argument from other, lesser known bands.

Fans of American girl group The Girl Way and UK boy band Fragile Accord had staunchly defended their respective groups after it was alleged that The Girl Way's frontwoman Nikki McBickie suggested that Fragile Accord had mimed throughout their career – including during their press interviews and while on dates with fans.

Fragile Accord's frontman Pini Lyons then took to Twitter to call McBickie a “no hope tart” who wasn't fit to “separate the green frogs from the red frogs on our rider.”

The dispute descended into an all-in Twitter brawl and fans became even more defensive of their artists – there were even reports of violence between groups of fans in at least three major US cities during the week.

Those loyalties were questioned earlier today, however, when it emerged that the barbs being thrown between the groups on Twitter were word-for-word identical with an argument between two child pageant contestants from Tennessee in 2011. Two 13-year-olds had come to blows on stage during the state final over a tiara incident, with footage clearing showing parents of both children storming the stage and letting fly with insults.

Some of the insults from the footage – that then appeared on the Twitter beef – included “hey fat arms”, “check out that guy's tiny wrists!”, “do you buy all your clothes from Target?!” and “you still haven't given me back my hair straightener, cow!”

A high-up whistle-blower at Fragile Accord's label told SPA Confidential today that the recent dispute was a “conspiracy”, “created by the labels to build the fan bases.”

“The truth is the two groups love each other,” he said. “Two of the members are actually dating one another, but we keep it private so that the male population still buy CDs from both bands because they think they've got a chance with either of them.

“It's really fucking backfired now though – how pathetic are two bands that can't even have a real Twitter fight? We'll probably put both bands out to pasture on the shopping centre food court circuit. If they're lucky they'll form cover bands of each other and they can crack the tribute circuit.”

It is understood that the parents of the two pageant contestants and considering suing the two acts over copyright. The two pageant contestants, meanwhile, are currently going through a 'goth phase'.
