12 July 2013 | 1:46 pm | SPA Confidential

Cricket star Ashton Agar has signed to a label to release his debut “hit single”

Nineteen-year-old cricket star and undisputed champion of the world, Ashton Agar has secured a deal to release a hit single next week.

After his heroic Ashes knock saved Australia's hide last night, record labels have been clamouring over one another for Agar's debut single.

A source inside one of the labels involved in the impromptu bidding war told SPA Confidential, “As soon as he hit 50 the offers were in the hundreds of thousands, but they quickly rose into the millions this morning… It was tight, but it looks like his representatives have signed a deal with one of the labels. The track will be recorded in the lunch break this evening and released in the tea break, with Agar performing it live following the day's play."

He added that the “hit single” Agar would be recording, “is very much in the vein of Brett Lee's anthem, but with a bit more of an EDM influence than Six And Out ever had.

“This is the right time to capitalise on such a raw talent and start his music career. Boof Lehmann will probably learn to beat-box for the bridge.”

A range of top-end producers and songwriters are being brought in to create the track, including the teams behind Tamara Jaber's Ohh Ahh, Nikki Webster's Strawberry Kisses, Young Divas' Turn Me Loose and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' Thrift Shop.
