A drummer from an American band billed to play an Australian festival will, remarkably, come into the country for the shows.

A drummer from an American band billed to play an Australian festival in six months time has signalled his intention to come into the country for the shows.

Timothy Osser of Florida band Stereo Fuse has reportedly told close friends and relatives that he won't be able to make plans with them for two weeks during the time he will be in Australia. It is likely that the drummer will actually travel with the other members of the band and could even take part in media and publicity duties.

Festival organisers are expected to use Osser's appearance as a major selling point for the event, particularly as a point of difference for its competitors.

The news has come under attack from pockets of the local industry, however, with Chairman of the Australian Drum Fill-Ins Association [ADFIA] Sean Ticks, telling SPA Confidential today that Osser's actions could set a dangerous precedent.

“The members of ADFIA are concerned that more drummers could follow Osser's lead and come to Australia with their bands. That would potentially be crippling for the local drummer fill-in industry. We'll be making a submission to the Federal Government to ask for legislation that would cap the amount of drummers allowed to come into the country with their bands.”
