Fringe: Hills Hoist

23 September 2014 | 12:10 pm | Izzy Tolhurst

On the opening night of the 2014 Fringe Festival, the all female, all Swinburne alumni, all-star Spoon Eyes Theatre Company put Australia to the test.

Leaving no Aussie icon safe from mockery or scrutiny, institutions such as Centrelink, Myki, AFL, hip hop, beer drinking, and slang are all challenged in extremely original, thought-provoking ways.

The most poignant scenes of all, those that address our nation’s veiled sexism and the ongoing mistreatment of asylum seekers, are profound. They make you laugh, they make you think, and they should make you cry.

Whether you love or hate Australia, this is a show everyone needs to see.
