Wilding, aka Justin Stokes, follows up his colourful 2012 debut Bird's Bread with an equally vibrant foray into 1960s Brit pop with the odd dash of psychedelia — the Melbourne-via-UK singer-songwriter channelling his Liverpudlian roots even more.
While his penchant for the retro-pop-rock and brassy pomp of his forbears renders songs like Missing Her, Monkey House and Goodbye a tad contrived, they're likable and kind of endearing, but don't pack enough punch to make the album a sure standout. Slow-burners Stuck In The Middle, Deep River and Carry Me Over are nice, gentle, slide-guitar-filled respites within the madness.
