VERA BLUE has gone from awesome to amazing with each release in the past year, so it’s pretty exciting to finally see the video for the title track from her debut EP, Fingertips, come our way.
The clip for ‘Fingertips’ was crafted Paper Moose, the same creative crew who put together Vera Blue’s previous videos, and they are obviously a pretty dreamy combo. Her tracks always have a deep meaning, and an emotional side to them, which is portrayed, once again, in a stunning manner through this video.
‘Fingertips’ is from the perspective of the person in the wrong, which is an often-left alone viewpoint, and makes for a lot of creative fodder to be played around with in the video. Of the track Vera Blue says it’s a heavy, but honest, about social media and unfaithfulness and what this can do to people emotionally.
The video opens as though Vera Blue is pulling strings out of her skin, almost like veins, slowly weaving them into a web, which could stand as metaphor for either the world wide web, or a web of lies. It then progresses to a maze that looks almost like the inside of skin, or even a heart, playing on both the theme of fingertips, and the lyrics “breaking your heart is just at my fingertips”.
Vera Blue’s folk background is evident despite the electronic infusion. It’s certainly a heavy track, and not for the emotionally fragile, but it is also a reminder of the dominance social media is playing in our lives.
