Brisbane young guns MADBOOTS have dropped a futuristic new single, 'Headstone', ahead of their anticipated 2HARD EP. Known for their wild live shows and music videos, MADBOOTS are carving out a niche for themselves as one of Brisbane's most innovative acts, blending electro, hip-hop and a huge dose of irony.
MADBOOTS is made up of two sisters as front vocalists, a scratch DJ and a producer who only dances during live shows. Their DIY style and playful treatment of hip-hop cliches are obvious in 'Headstone', as they rap about the very real life problem of needing a big enough headstone when they die, with an old-school flow and chilled-out beats.
The video is everything you would expect from a song about your own death. Featuring serious funeral scenes, rap hands and excellent use of Photoshop, 'Headstone' is a hypnotic, self-reflexive pastiche that will get stuck in your head for days. "I can see in the future/ Imma need room to/ spread my legs in my tomb, yeah," is one of the most memorable lines in this 2-minute banger.
2HARD is the first official release from MADBOOTS since dropping the Minang Galore mixtape and a string of singles since 2015. This band is as unpredictable as their music, so we can't wait to see what surprises they have in store.
