VoiidIt’s safe to say Brisbane punks VOIID have a growing cult following, but what’s not safe is the mighty good thrashing you’ll be doing to your head after a whiff of their second EP DROOL. The opening seconds of Drunk flow with fluctuating levels of delay and fuzz, before a blast of energy that mixes with production techniques that’ll bring joy to any audiophile.
We’re treated to familiar singles Silly Girl and Vile. Durry Mouth begins with the sonic simplicity reminiscent of their debut EP, Pussy Orientated, but then transitions smoothly into a louder, more powerful sound. The bridge of the track treats listeners to Anji Greenwood’s voice being delayed as both guitars roar on lower notes.
Final tracks Twin, DipShits and Not For You service current fans with tracks they’d be familiar with from live shows. There’s always something special about hearing tracks in a produced setting that recapture moments while drawing in new fans.
Listening to this EP alone, it’s clear that VOIID are always ready for a fight. With a simple flow of chords and catchy choruses, VOIID get their message across fluently and proudly – they’re not to be messed with. This is the next chapter in their hostile takeover of the world.
