"There is no denying the singer's technicality and deft hand."
The title says it all — Melbourne singer Tanzer dishes out a lovelorn journey across her debut EP that is heavy in theatrics and lush 1980s backing and dramatic vocals.
While Tanzer's smoky-eyed, fierce femme styling is a neat, gaze-drawing aesthetic, there is no denying the singer's technicality and deft hand at placing her sultry warble atop retrospective glam-pop. It's so hard not to get swept up in the castanets, croons and school-crush vibes of Johnny, but digging deeper reveals the quieter moments in the hymn-like My Divine Only and Sleep where Tanzer's vocal is front and centre. That's Why Darling's spacey synth and operatic storytelling make for a memorable finale.
