"They breathe additional life into a record that hits the bullet points fans demand, without extending themselves too much."

More Suffocation More Suffocation

Although many veteran extreme metal acts are crafting worthwhile fare, never underestimate the value of an injection of youth.

Note, US tech-deathsters Suffocation — its core members now flanked by two energised upstarts. They breathe additional life into a record that hits the bullet points fans demand, without extending themselves too much. Those frantic riffs and Frank Mullen's chewing gravel vocals are part of death metal lore; ditto in that, there are more breakdowns than a dodgy car. The production lacks some of their usual punch, but remaking Breeding The Spawn crusher Epitaph Of The Credulous proves a winner. This continues, rather than reinvents, what Suffocation are all about.
