More Sticky Fingers More Sticky Fingers

Flower Truck played a lengthy set of melodic, jangly pop/rock that no one particularly dug, but successfully provided some entertainment for the crowd nonetheless as they filtered into the venue and found their way to the bar.

Next up was the shirtless, one-man band Lyall Moloney, who, armed with a guitar and vocal looping equipment, stood on the stage with a sense of purpose, pumping out tunes laden with dubbed Caribbean beats, percussive vocals and the occasional harmonica loop, which got the crowd pumped for Sticky Fingers.

The Metro was at full capacity by the time Sticky Fingers strolled on stage to answer the crowd’s impatient ‘Sticky’ pleas, and were greeted by a loud cheer. Staying true to the tour’s name, they kicked off their set with album title track, Land Of Pleasure.

Despite this being the band’s third sold-out show in Sydney this week, they showed no signs of being tired and lapped up every bit of enthusiasm the crowd was giving them. As far as punters were concerned every song was a hit, needing no prompting from the band to clap, put their hands in the air or sing along, with the chorus’ of Rum Rage and Liquiorlip Loaded Gun really seeming to come alive in the live setting. The crowd and band went nuts for Gold Snafu and Just For You, and older track, These Girls, proved to be a winner for a mid-set come down.

It seemed Sticky Fingers were testing the crowd’s patience, choosing to save their older tracks for the encore. How To Fly was met with cheers, the heartfelt, slowed-down opening of Caress Your Soul went down a treat, and then as expected, the crowd went into frenzy during Australia Street, proving these the perfect trio of songs to end a night that could only be possible because of their dedicated fanbase.
