"No new ideas, but this spirited stoner homage, recorded live off the floor, offers rare authenticity."

More Spiritual Beggars More Spiritual Beggars

Led by Arch Enemy shredder Michael Amott, alongside former/current Opeth, Grand Magus and Firewind personnel, Spiritual Beggars have been kicking out the Purple-fied hard-rock jams for two decades.

Only sporadically active, there's long been more than a whiff of effortless chemistry, of pals sparking up while poring over each other's '70s vinyl collections. Amott withdraws liberally from his seemingly endless riff bank, and revels in Schenker-worshipping leads (title track). Psychedelic Lonely Freedom's a standout, Southern Star's hefty groove resonates and No Man's Land references classic prog. No new ideas, but this spirited stoner homage, recorded live off the floor, offers rare authenticity.
