Album Review: Skye & Ross - Skye & Ross

"A conscious step towards a calmer, old fashioned style of songwriting."

Two of the three that make up Morcheeba, Skye & Ross is not necessarily a different animal from their previous eight efforts, more like two kinds of bear in a line-up, panda or polar?

Ponderous, effete and missing much of the electric melodrama of Morcheeba proper, Skye & Ross takes a conscious step towards a calmer, old fashioned style of songwriting. With a simpler instrumental palette and few overt flourishes hampering Edwards' storytelling, much of the middle feels one bad day away from being a country classic, thankfully there are enough deviations, and even psychedelia solos, littered throughout to keep things interesting.
