Album Review: Ruined Fortune - Ruined Fortune

"They manage to forge an album of maniacal beauty that is wondrously nihilistic and catastrophically hypnotic."

With core members Angela Garrick (Circle Pit) and Nic Warnock (RIP Society) and helpers Joe Alexander (Bedroom Suck) and Dan Spencer (Blank Realm), the self-titled debut from Ruined Fortune reads like a veritable Australian supergroup – or banal vanity project. Ruined Fortune is neither and so much more. Melding white noise lava with scrappy (de)construction and sepulchral malaise, they manage to forge an album of maniacal beauty that is wondrously nihilistic and catastrophically hypnotic. The onslaught of In A Hole and the razorblade masquerading as pop in Transparent Faces alone confirm Ruined Fortune is the New World Order.
