Album Review: Rosie & The Bees - Rosie & The Bees

You may recall Rosie's work with Old Man River, or from Sydney band The Bakery, long gone. Rosie's new home is with her Bees, Banel Martinez and Byron Mark, and her new sound is a warm blend of psychedelic soul, nu-jazz and hippy funk. It's an infectious combination that transcends the derivative elements of her more popular peers, if not by their impressive detailing and inventiveness, then by their sense of fun and levity. Synth textures swirl around splashy jazz drumming, while Martinez' agile guitar dances over several layers of Rosie's bright vocals.
