Tei Shi takes on Beyonce's 'No Angel' and reworks it with her own blissful-pop charm.
There are two types of people in the world; those who can pull off a BEYONCE cover, and those who can't. TEI SHI, of course, is one of those who can. Columbian born, Brooklyn based artist TEI SHI has taken on BEYONCE's 'No Angel' from her self titled album.
TEI SHI said of the song that she felt it had more edge to it, it was "less pretty" which is what drew her to rework the track and after garnering a good response performing it live, TEI SHI decided to record it - and for this we are thankful.
Displaying her skills as a vocalist, she manages to ace the challenging chorus, keeping true to the original slow and breathy falsetto structure, but by including little vocal additions along the way we are reminded this is TEI SHI doing her own thing, it is much more than just a cover. A shift to a more electro-heavy backing and the interesting ending to the track also gives it a significant point of difference from the original.
TEI SHI takes elements from the original and reworks them carefully, honestly and tweaks them just enough to keep it engaging, but leaves the framework in place to allow it to stay a simple, beautiful rendition of the original track that plays up on the element of edginess that first attracted TEI SHI to this in the first place.
